In 1999, playing poker in Denmark wasn’t exactly mainstream. No online tables, just real cards, real chips (although mostly cash), beer, and the occasional backroom of a bar or old countryside farm. Gambling laws were strict in Denmark, the crowd was mixed, and the skill level varied wildly. We made it work anyway.

That summer we started an informal poker club. Low-stakes home games for friends. While the rest of the country chased tournaments, we kept our version alive, though the gatherings became rarer over the years.

Twenty-five years later, a bit older and still in need of a proper third place, we’re relaunching the club for the anniversary.

Don’t act surprised, this is gonna get nerdy…

I’m planning to build a dedicated site: fish-n-chips.dk. Public section with articles, game variants, and old-school home game advice. Members area for calendars, ratings, stats, and whatever else we decide to track.

WordPress for the main site. I’m also eyeing an external database so I can eventually build a small iOS members app. Not because it’s strictly necessary, but because I want to. Classic over-engineering, fully embraced.
